Protect your Place of Worship against Hate Crime

The series of devastating terrorist attacks the world has seen over the past year have really emphasised the need to tighten security in the UK and following the murder of a Catholic Priest in France, the security of churches too.

With alerts high worldwide, now is as good a time as ever to improve the security of your church or place of worship or make sure existing security is tight.  This might include making sure that locks on doors and windows are in good working order and are utilised when the building is empty.

You may also wish to consider safety protocol when one person may be working alone in the church.

You can find more information about church security on the Safer Places of Worship website, here.

However, any measures you take to increase and tighten your security, probably won’t come without cost.  This is why the government have set up the Places of worship: security funding scheme.  The scheme aims to provide ‘funding for security measures against hate crime’ and is open to applications from any place of worship in England and Wales.

There is however only an 8 week window of opportunity to apply for funding this year and applications closes at 5pm on 20 September 2016.  For more information regarding eligibility and how to apply, visit the Gov.uk website here.
