Third Sector Awards 2015

Last night Sandy and I spent our evening at the 2015 Third Sector Awards at The Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Little did we know that the evening would be so special to us.

We were invited as the guests of our good friends at Ansvar and were pleased to be there to support one of our clients, Quaker Social Action.

As the evening progressed, we were absolutely delighted and rather moved to see Quaker Social Action receive the Breakthrough of the Year award, for their Down to Earth project.  It was an incredibly proud yet poignant moment for me after having given a donation to the project when it launched, in memory of my father who sadly passed away a few years ago.

Down to Earth is the first  project in the UK to give ‘immediate practical’ support to people on lower incomes who might be struggling to plan a funeral on such a tight budget – a little thought about and often overlooked issue.  The project came up against much bigger charities such as Cancer Research UK and Sova, in the category to find the organisation which had shown initiative and ‘showcased something new or different’.

‘Friends have supported Down to Earth every step of the way and helped the project to flourish.  A lot of hard work stands behind it’s sucess and we want to thank every supporter who has cheered us on.’
